10 Romantic Gift Ideas for Any Occasion
by SJ Johnson
The best gifts I've ever received were inexpensive - a love letter, a framed picture, vintage jewelry. Creative gifts are always in fashion. They are personalized, thoughtful, and unique. Here are 10 inexpensive gift ideas for your boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, or husband.
Spell It Out
Make a list on decorative paper of everything you love about your partner. If you have great penmanship, handwrite the list. You can also type the list using a special font (try French Script MT, Vivaldi, or Lucida Handwriting). Frame the list with a picture of the two of you.
Some suggestions to start the process:
"When I first met you, I knew..."
"What I love about you is..."
"You mean________ to me because..."
Go to an herbal store and buy essential oils, such as lavender, rose, citrus, or bergamot. Combine the oils to form a signature fragrance. You may want to ask a store worker to help you find the best combinations, before you experiment.
If you really want to go all out, put your personalized fragrance in a perfume or cologne bottle. You can find inexpensive perfume bottles on EBay, in thrift stores, or flea markets.
Find an inexpensive decorative box. This will become your memento box. Place anything that is a memento from your relationship into the box-a napkin, a concert or movie stub, a picture, a handwritten love letter. Your sweetheart will never know you have this box of mementos waiting for just the right occasion.
Make a scrapbook. Write notes to your significant other: memories of events, promises, wishes, and thoughts.
Experiment with different combinations of beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) to come up with your own signature drink to serve at dinner parties and special occasions.
Create a special recipe using his/her favorite ingredients.
Make your own art. Take a photo of the two of you and print it in black & white onto stock paper. Use colorful paint to fill in the background of your picture. Be creative. The contrast between the colored paint and the black & white photo will make the picture pop!
Make personalized computer desktop wallpaper. If you are computer savvy, you can turn a picture of the two of you into computer art.
Get an autograph from you sweetheart's hero. Go on EBay, write the person, or go to a book signing to get the autograph.
Look for vintage jewelry online, in flea markets, or in thrift stores. You can usually find bargains if the pieces are tarnished. Don't let that scare you. A polishing cloth will make silver look like new.
Go to a store that sells beads and jewelry making kits. For women, you can make a custom bracelet out of semi-precious stones or jade. Braid leather cords to create an expensive-looking men's bracelet.
Research all the significant events that occurred on his or her birthday, starting with his/her birth, of course!
Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
Create a newspaper front page with a picture of you and sweetheart and a story about your relationship. Most software programs offer newsletter templates. If you do not have one, you can find a template online, or you can cut and paste your hometown newspaper to create the same look. Frame it...Your relationship is now front-page news.
Everything Is Coming Up Roses
Create an expensive-looking floral arrangement by going to the Dollar Store, flea market, or thrift store to buy an inexpensive vase. Then, head over to your local supermarket (or your home garden). You can fill the vase with supermarket red roses for an expensive look at an inexpensive price; however, any flowers will do.
