Before we begin, let's start with the basics. What is the ball? What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to reach a goal, solve a problem or end an addiction? In this video, we will use reaching a goal as an example. But, these techniques can be applied to any scenario.
Once you define your goal, it should be easy to reach right? Unfortunately, most of us have trouble getting started. We bang our heads against the wall. So, what's holding us back? Let's figure that out so that we can move forward.
Most of the time, we are held back from achieving our goals by fear, toxic people, lack of direction, lack of willpower, and disorganization, so let's discuss those obstacles and some suggestions to overcome them. The key is to figure out what's holding us back and eliminate it.
Fear is a common emotion. We all experience fear, and fear in and of itself isn't bad. Fear has positive and practical benefits; however, it isn't positive when fear prevents us from achieving a goal. The key is to figure out whether the fear is beneficial, as in protecting us from harm or disaster. Or, if the fear is harmful and holding us back. The easiest way to do this is to find out the root of the fear. What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of success, change or do you fear your success will lead to people being jealous or envious? These are real fears and these fears could be preventing you for achieving your goal.
If these fears are making you unhappy, the best thing to do is acknowledge your fears and weigh the pros and cons. Is reaching your goal worth conquering your fears? Do the pros outweigh the cons? Use visualization techniques to overcome fear of success and fear of change. Visualize success, how does it make you feel? Next, try networking with people who have achieved the goal and ask them for advice on overcoming fear.
Speaking of the fear of jealous and envious people, this is a good time to address toxic people. It's difficult to move forward when you have people telling you that you can't. Toxic people fill your head with doubts, and they stand in the way of your progress. They resent your success and potential. Toxic people are not your friends. The easiest way to prevent them from impeding your progress is to avoid them. Remove toxic people from your life. Sure, it may be difficult to avoid toxic family members, but you can avoid listening to their negativity. Keep in mind, when they tell you that you'll never reach your goals, it is usually because they didn't reach theirs.
Lack of Direction can make achieving goals seem virtually impossible. There are so many choices and options that making a decision can be dizzying. Which way should you go? With so many choices, it's easy to procrastinate, especially if you are a perfectionist who believes that there is only one correct answer in life. The good news is that there are many right answers. Just find the one that is right for you. Use visualization, meditation and journaling to find your passion. What makes you happy? And remember, if you make a mistake, you are only human. We all make mistakes, just learn and keep moving forward.
Willpower is one of the most difficult obstacles to overcome. We all struggle with resisting temptation or getting motivated to do something that we don't want to do. The easiest way to gain willpower is to flex your willpower muscles. Willpower really is a "use it or lose it" skill. The easiest way to train yourself to have willpower is to start small and build up slowly. Reward yourself after each step.
Another obstacle that gets in the way of success is disorganization. Disorganization causes people to miss great opportunities because they aren't prepared. The key to reaching a goal is to get your ducks in a row. And this leads to the final step...Have a plan.
Having a plan is the key to success. That is why disorganization is such an obstacle. Once you have a plan:
1. Divide your plan into small manageable steps.
2. Next, write your plan and the steps down. This will serve as a roadmap, which will help with lack of direction. When you feel yourself going astray, refer back to your plan.
3. Seek out a mentor and develop a support network. You'll be able to research ways that these people reached similar goals. Additionally, these people will hold you accountable.
4. Take a picture of your goal. Every time you want to give up, just look at your goal. As you get closer to your goal, take pictures of yourself. Seeing you smiling, happy face after each success will keep you on the right path.
5. Make sure to reward yourself after every accomplishment.
Most of all, don't beat yourself up if you reach an obstacle. Just keep moving forward.
So, there you have it. That is how to achieve success in three steps. Congratulations! You've just taken a step closer to reaching your goals. Refer back to this video anytime you need motivation and encouragement. Thanks for watching.
