Attract Positive People by Avoiding Negative Toxic People
By SJ Johnson
The easiest way to attract positive people into your life is by avoiding negative people. When you associate with negative people, you pick up their bad habits. Therefore, before you can surround yourself with positive people, you must first know how to recognize negative, toxic people.
Understanding Toxic Behavior
It is easy to tell when you are around negative or toxic people because they erode your self-esteem and happiness. Negative people are called emotional vampires ecause they suck your energy. Examples of negative personality types include bullies, overly critical people, gossipers and moochers.
Negative people always want something. They ask for money, favors, material goods and your time. Some negative people simply want to make you miserable. The one thing they all have in common is that they are controlling, manipulative and demanding. The easiest way to recognize toxic people is to listen to them. They always tell sob stories where they are the victims. Toxic people will use guilt or any tool at their disposal to get their way. Unlike positive people, they cannot accept "no" for an answer without making you feel guilty.
It is fine to empathize with negative people and hope they get the help they need; however, you must remember that you cannot change them. People are who they are. By avoiding toxic people, you are not only saving your sanity but also allowing positive people to enter your life.
How to Surround Yourself with Positive People
1. When you first meet someone, establish healthy boundaries. Take time to get to know someone before you develop a close relationship. Toxic people initially try to conform to your expectations. They tell you what you want to hear to gain your trust. Be on guard.
2. Pay attention to red flags. We were given intuition and gut feelings for a reason. Those red flags typically point to bigger issues.
3. Toxic people use lines to draw you in, make you feel important, but most of all, make you feel needed. Sure, this is an ego boost. That's exactly the point! If you really pay attention, they are not talking about you. They are talking about themselves. Remember, toxic people are self-absorbed.
With this knowledge, you will be able to spot a negative person immediately. Run far away, as fast as you can. Without negativity in your life, you will have time to engage in hobbies and activities that you enjoy. By doing things that you thoroughly love, you will give off positive energy. Others pick up on that energy and want to be around you. Therefore, you are attracting likeminded people to you. It is a win-win situation because you are enjoying yourself and meeting positive people at the same time. For more information, read "How to Avoid Toxic People and Emotional Vampires"
